The Rural Data Center Rebellion

People across the country are fighting the imposition of data centers. Rural communities are the primary field of battle!

Many people don’t know that data centers are the most destructive environmental projects ever!

Data centers do not make good neighbors: they guzzle up municipalities’ water supplies and dump polluted water, consume more power than entire cities, dehydrate watersheds that feed our crops and animals, decimate massive amounts of land and wildlife habitat, redirect migration patterns, and create noise and air pollution. In doing so, they increase electric, water, and heating bills, and decrease property values and the ability to resell homes.

“Residents are aggrieved by the current contractor shortage, as infrastructure repair stops being a priority if your home is not on the pathway to the data center, and that gas-guzzling generators are often needed because of inundated electric grids. Data centers push our living systems towards collapse. There is no justification for this center, here or anywhere!”¹

Data centers are fundamental to war, especially potential nuclear wars. The data center planned for Ypsilanti, Mi, is called by the University of Michigan, the “biggest, baddest, fastest computer in the world.” Ninety percent of this computer power is reserved for secret military projects at the university!

Data centers are brought to you by the same identical forces that put ICE in Minnesota, are invading our cities, and are implementing genocide in Gaza. This is the unholy alliance of fascism between Silicon Valley platforms and Trump fascism. Surveillance has been the business plan of social media platforms as well as corporate dictatorship long before Trump.

MAGA fascism intends to build data centers that will make our rural ecologies into national sacrifice zones!

Minnesota has shown the possibilities of popular resistance. We can stop fascism by becoming ungovernable! Each rebellion compromises the state, drains it of resources, and ties it down, blocking its ability to impose fascism.

A proverb from Thailand states, “A million spider webs will ensnare the water buffalo”! Our country is learning how to fight fascism!

Time to build a network reaching out to all to pursue our common Interest. Ignore those who attempt to divide us.
