Capitalism isn’t Working!

We know that capitalism simply isn’t working.

Masked ICE thugs are illegally attacking our communities. Rising Fascism at home and the first AI war abroad. There are no jobs, and the few that exist are being replaced by AI. Our cities are bankrupt by design; there is no housing, and our schools and medical systems are falling apart. The Fall elections under attack.

The old system is dead.

We cannot and will not go back to a country where the whims of billionaires determine the destruction of our lives. As we rise to defeat Trump fascism, every step forward, every small victory raises the same questions:

We know what we are fighting against, but what are we fighting for? What is going to replace capitalism?

The answer is Share-and-Share-Alike Socialism.

This is not a new idea. It is the basis of what we are and has been part of humanity’s heritage for millennia. Human beings are collective, interacting, and caring. These fundamental values are expressed in every religion.

They are expressed in Christianity’s Golden Rule: Do unto others as you would have others do unto you.

Islam says, “The Prophet Muhammad said, ‘None of you [truly] believes until he loves for his brother that which he loves for himself.’” [Al-Bukhari], Hadith 13]. Judaism expresses it this way: ‘That which is despicable to you, do not do to your fellow, this is the whole Torah, and the rest is commentary, go and learn it.’” [Hillel the Elder in The Babylonian Talmud]

Today, humanity possesses the wealth and the skill to make these principles a reality.

How would this work? Climate Disaster points the way forward. Under capitalism, individual capitalists claim the right to own petroleum as their private property. This means they personally make decisions that enrich themselves while imposing disaster and poverty on the rest of us. Under Share-and-Share-Alike Socialism, the public owns petroleum and can pump, refine, and use it in a manner that is ecologically beneficial to the planet. This step requires abolishing the private control of oil.

AI is the same.

It should be owned by the public and controlled for the benefit of all people equally. This is the guarantee of Share-and-Share-Alike Socialism.

This time it is all of us or none of us.

We can abolish the extreme wealth of billionaires and begin the process of dividing equally the wealth that humanity produces every year.

This step also requires establishing true democracy at every level of governance. This means abolishing the corporate seizure of our government.
