The Supreme Court Guts Voting Rights, Promotes Fascism
Using a single-party South to overthrow Democracy
“The South politically controls the country, and Wall Street controls the South.” (W.E.B. Du Bois)1
In the U.S., attacks on the working class begin in the South and spread to the rest of the country. The assault on Roe v Wade came from Mississippi, and the gutting of the Voting Rights Act came from Louisiana. Once the Supreme Court (SCOTUS) overturned Row-vs-Wade, ten of the eleven Southern states immediately passed laws to restrict or totally ban abortion. Immediately after SCOTUS destroyed the Voting Rights Act, seven of these states redrew their Congressional districts, reducing or eliminating black representation.
In America, the fight for justice and equality begins in the South and is won or lost in the South. Indeed, the gutting of the Voting Rights Act is an attack on the whole working class.
The media and the liberal talking heads tell us this is a racial matter. Michael Li of the Brennan Center for Justice calls it “a five-alarm fire for Black representation in the South.”1 The Democrats tell us that this is the Republicans trying to steal the mid-term election. The solution is “vote for us.”
But by disenfranchising Blacks, SCOTUS disenfranchises all workers.
Their decision strengthens the power and unity of one-party states across the South. The intention is to give the capitalist class a base for the development of a fascist party. The capitalist class, the 1 percent who own the banks, factories, and AI. The Capitalists know that AI has changed the world. They know that they can no longer use democracy to rule our country; they need fascism to survive.
Capitalist “Democracy” is bribery, corruption, and fraud, backed up with violence and terror. Fascism is violence and terror, backed up by bribery, corruption, and fraud. We can see this change happening every day. Violence and terror are ICE attacks on immigrant workers, police and university attacks on pro-Palestinian students, poverty, hunger, homelessness, no health care, and …..
The Capitalist class knows that the American people oppose their programs.
Two out of every three Americans oppose the wars in Gaza and Iran and ICE violence; sixty percent support gun control, abortion, and LGBTQ+ Rights; while 70% oppose the construction of data centers. This is why Capitalist “Democracy” has to go.
The plan is to install a fascist regime in Washington, DC. They want a political regime where the appearance is “white rule,” yet the reality is “capitalists’ rule.” To accomplish this, they must build an American fascist party. A movement rooted in white supremacy and white Christian nationalism. A national fascist party with its roots in a single-party South.
But the American people know we can stop this. We have learned an important lesson in the national battles against ICE – neighbors defend neighbors; we can only depend on ourselves! Now, as Southern-based fascism puts us all in the crosshairs, we know that there can be no peace anywhere in the country. Before the Civil War, Northerners organized to directly support the struggles in the South. In the Civil Rights era of the 1960s, Northerners joined to defeat Jim Crow and pass legislation that guaranteed health care, public education, and voting rights for all.
The third time is the charm! We have the in our hands the power to change the world. We have no choice!
