How to Kill a Movement- A Lesson for Revolutionaries
No Kings #3. On March 28, over 8 million Americans came together to demand an end to the rise of fascism in our country, to I.C.E. attacks, and to War and Genocide. The next day, I.C.E. attacks continued, bombs kept falling, and the genocide spread. We are in a worse situation today than we were 79 days ago.
The American people are pissed off and on the move.
In community after community, we are organizing the resistance to I.C.E. concentration camps, data centers, the War on Iran, and the spreading genocide in Gaza and Lebanon.
Our Movement is Growing.
Indeed, we should demonstrate and learn to channel our political power more forcibly. Yes, of course ‘No Kings”, but we cannot win by being AGAINST. The power status quo must change.
The Leadership of the No Kings Protests and the Democratic Party (DP) are afraid of the American people.
These demonstrations are organized top/down under the leadership of Ezra Levin, leader of “Indivisible,” an organization tied to the DP. But they cannot directly control our movement, because they have no plan other than “Trump is the problem, vote for Democrats.” We know that the DP is part of the problem not the solution. They work for the same capitalist class as the Republican Party. They are the “good cops”, but still cops.
If No Kings #3 didn’t work, why have No Kings #4?
Since the DP cannot control our movement, they are using an old cowboy trick to kill it – How Cowboys End a Stampede. “Sometimes there would be a storm happening and these cattle would begin to bolt. You would see these cowboys run in there and jump on their horses and get to the head of this stampede and turn it and get it running around in a circle. They would be hitting them with whips and making those cattle run in that circle until they were absolutely exhausted. And that is what we have to be cautious of today — leadership that gets you running around in a circle till you are absolutely exhausted. When you get up enough strength, they get you going again.” (Nelson Perry)
THE AMERICAN PEOPLE CANNOT STOP FASCISM AND WAR WITH TALK OR MARCHES – THEY NEED TO DEVELOP A PLAN. THIS IS THE ROLE THAT REVOLUTIONARIES MUST PLAY IN THE COMING “AMERICAN REVOLUTION”
FOR REVOLUTIONARIES, helping develop the unity and vision needed for a plan will not be an easy task.
“There’s always been a resistance to intellectual development of the revolutionary movement in America. That is what some folks are beginning to understand. We don’t have to worry about the demonstrations, the rallies, the protest. revolutionaries, we don’t have to worry about the spontaneous movement. It is going to happen. What we have to guarantee is that there is an intellectual development that keeps pace with that spontaneous mass motion. This is a very, very difficult thing to do.” (Nelson Perry)
