Here’s Why I am a Communist!

As a Communist for over Fifty Years, I think it is time to speak out about Trump’s gaslighting about “Marxist vermin”. As usual, nothing he says is true. Calling names is not an argument.

Communists do not care if Trump call us “vermin”, name calling is what he does best. But we do care about the bullshit gaslighting that lumps Joe Biden, Kamala Harris and the Democratic Party in with communism. The Democratic Party represents the status quo of Capitalism.

Working Class Principles

Communists stand for the principle, “From each according to their abilities, to each according to their needs”. It is noteworthy that in 1976, on the 200th birthday of the US, the majority of Americans believed that this principle was part of the Constitution.¹

Capitalists stand for the principle “From each, according to what we can steal, to each, according to what they can afford.” Capitalists are violently opposed to any distribution according to need. That’s why the richest man on earth is stealing money from the poorest.

That’s the source of Trump’s incredibly cold-hearted, criminal view about turning Gaza into the Riviera of the Middle East… after US capitalism destroyed it.

Communists stand for public control of all the tools and technologies of humanity and Nature and oppose the private seizure of these resources.

Communists recognize that personal property is not private property. What each of us uses every day is personal property, not private property. Private property is set up for private profit and against the public.

Communists recognize that the private property of financiers and corporations is devouring our personal property. Capitalism is a system that says you can have all the health care you can afford – or not – and then requires people to sell their personal property to pay for treatment.

Communists recognize that everyone should own a home, even billionaires! But billionaires can only live in one of their many mansions. They can own all they property they can keep clean without hiring servants! That means we can use the rest of their homes to provide housing for the rest of us. This is true economic communism.

Communists recognize the Golden Rule: Do unto others as you would have others do to you. Communism has always tried to put this principle into practice. Karl Marx developed the political program to make this real.

Communists fight for a world where riches and privilege are abolished so that the vast majority of humanity can share and share alike in the abundance the global economy already produces. Almost 30 years ago the UN recognized that it would take far less than the trillion-dollar US military budget to lift all 8 billion of us out of poverty.

Communists reconginze that we are the enemy of a system that will destroy Humanity and Nature. Our goal is to guarantee true economic equality and well-being and to establish peace and justice in the world.
