2020, Police Murder Breonna Taylor and George Floyd
2025, Police Terror Continues
How We can Stop It
On March 13, 2020, the Louisville, Kentucky police broke into Breonna Taylor’s apartment and shot her dead. On May 25, 2020, officer Derek Chauvin put his knee on George Floyd’s neck for 9 minutes and 29 seconds, killing him as he repeatedly said “I can’t breathe”, and cried out for his mother.

The American people respond to the murders with 7,500 demonstrations.1
We took to the streets to fight police brutality and racially motivated violence against black people, marching under the banner of Black Lives Matter. There were demonstrations in every state in the country. As Al Sharpton recalls,
“Many young people mobilized and hit the streets for the first time, and more than 200,000 folks joined us in the nation’s capital for a march on Washington in August 2020 to call attention to ongoing police injustice.”2
Our goals were to reform the police and reduce police terror?
Did We Succeed? NO!
In 2020, the police killed 1,160 people, in 2024 1,370 people and, as of May 29, 2025, the police have killed 485 people.3 Black people are 3-times more likely to be killed by police than white people.3
Police Terror continues no matter if a Democrat or a Republican is in the White House.
In order to end Police Terror, We must understand what the Police are and their role in society.
The police are bodies of armed people whose main role is to defend the economic system and the government built upon that system. Our economic system is based upon private property, exploitation and continued accumulation of wealth, all done at the expense of working and poor people. In short, Capitalism.
Whoever controls the government controls the Police.
The Capitalists control the government through their hired hands such as Biden and Trump as well as most of the elected officials.
Our entire legal system, all our institutions, are set up to grow and protect private wealth … wealth that grows from robbery and corruption. If the main function of the police was to stop crime, they would arrest the Capitalists, the true criminals. Instead:
If starving people are in front of a grocery store, police will protect the food, not distribute it.
If unhoused people are demanding access to empty homes, police will protect the owners
If we are protesting illegal deportations, police will protect ICE
If …….
The only way to end Police Terror is to end the Capitalist rule of our country.
We can do this, we must do this.
Let’s talk.
As people struggle to survive war, climate catastrophe, poverty, and pandemic, a new fascist state form is arising to crush us – the naked rule of corporate power. It uses the historic American weapon of white supremacy to attack communities of color, divide the working class, and rob the American people of our vote and the limited legal rights we have left. White supremacy is the legacy of the settler colonialism, slavery, land theft, and genocide of indigenous peoples that America was founded on. Fascism resorts to violence to control the working class, even controlling our intimate relationships and our personal identities. Society must replace corporations and financial institutions with publicly owned entities, or else they will continue to fasten their fascist grip over every aspect of our lives.4
