Freedom of Speech Weaponized by Fascist

The claim that Freedom of Speech is absolute, that anything a person says is automatically protected. That has never been the case. Freedom of Speech has always been conditional. We accept that people cannot shout “Fire!” in a crowded theater, nor is it acceptable to publicly call for someone’s murder.

Resistance Works!

The fascists are rapidly remaking our government. We know that resistance works on many levels. One general law of history is that people tend to get the government that they accept.

Nazis Free Speech!

60 million people died in World War II to deny Nazis Freedom of Speech. This is why every European country, but not the U.S., has laws abolishing the Nazi salute like the one Elon Musk gave at Trump’s Inauguration. Other laws ban public displays of swastikas, Nazi swag and Nazi tattoos like the ones on the chest of the new Head of the Department of Defense. People paid in blood to abolish calls for genocide and mass murder. Freedom of speech is relative and conditional, not absolute. We can learn from history,

Who has Free of Speech ?

If money is free speech, then freedom of speech is granted only to those with money. Corporate money now decrees that anyone else except the rich cannot have freedom of speech. It is now illegal – by presidential decree, not by Congressional laws – to call out systemic racism, to support LGBTQAI+ rights, and even to oppose genocide. Freedom of speech based on money means the freedom to abolish other peoples’ freedom of speech! MAGA forces, from Musk to school board disrupters, claim that their Freedom of Speech trumps everyone else’s! This is what corporate dictatorship looks like!

Biden’s Attack on Free Speech.

Since last Spring, and well before MAGA fascists took it over, the Biden government and the Democratic party imposed massive limitations on Freedom of Speech on campuses across the country. Since the best of humanity rose up to oppose the slaughter in Gaza, the worst of humanity has been empowered to hunt down anyone who actually has the guts to say that genocide is wrong.

Citizen United 

MAGA fascists tell us that all their lies and distortions are protected as Freedom of Speech! It gets worse. In 2010, the Supreme Court’s Citizen United decision held that corporations are people and money is free speech. This opened the doors to unlimited corporate spending to subvert elections and gave us Donald Trump and MAGA.^1.

Lies and more LIES !

Accepting the Trump/Musk government relies on believing its lies. Hard to resist if you accept what they say. One of the big false assumptions undergirds claims about Freedom of Speech, guaranteed in the First Amendment to the Constitution.

Words of Truth

Andrea Brower ^3. an assistant professor at Gonzaga University wrote these words. She is now accused of “discrimination” under the Civil Rights Act and may lose her job. Yet Trump, Musk and MAGA forces can tell lie after lie with impunity. This is billionaire law in action!
