The first lies about “evidence” that Charlie Kirk’s presumed assassin was “a Leftist” (that his bullets had pro-trans markings) have been retracted. New evidence suggests that the shooter’s motives are unclear.

This did not stop Donald Trump from declaring on Thursday, the 24th anniversary of the 911 attacks, “And we have a great country. We have radical left lunatics out there and we just have to beat the hell out of them.”

When a fire was set in the German Reichstag, Hitler assumed emergency powers to arrest political opponents, paving the way for Nazi dictatorship.

The leader of US fascism today is calling for open violence against anyone who supports Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI), who opposes US supported genocide in Gaza or who opposes Trump’s ICE gestapo from kidnapping people off the street,

Trump speaks for what was the core of the US ruling class who ruled by organized violence for 150 years during slavery and during Jim Crow. These are the people who lynched their opponents with vigilante violence to maintain their power. The history of US genocide is coming back to life: the slaughter of Native Americans, the chain gangs, the urban massacres in Oklahoma, Florida and so many others.

Likewise, the broad US history of working class uprisings, slave rebellions and the day-to-day sabotage and resistance of individual slaves and workers points the way forward.

Up until the late 19th Century, there were no real organized police in the US. The ruling class directly employed thugs, vigilantes and fascist gangs to eliminate their opposition and “beat the Hell out of them”. As the country industrialized, organized police were employed by cities, where the large factories were located. The military police that we see everywhere are a result of the creation of the Homeland Security Department right after September 11, 2001.

Now the Supreme Court gives Trump a free hand to employ the army in US cities for the first time ever. Last week, the court went even further. It decreed that “racial factors” were legal to identify and detain “criminals”. Funny, it also decided that “racial factors” could not be used to provide access to higher education to historically disadvantaged people – BIPOC people, women, gay and trans folks, the disabled and immigrants.

Now Walking While Brown joins Driving While Black! SCOTUS also criminalized the biological need to sleep when it allowed for the criminalization of all homeless. The lynchers are back in power!
