SAVING SNAP WILL NOT SOLVE HUNGER

Hunger in America, indeed in the world, is a part of the capitalism system and cannot be eliminated without ending the private, corporate ownership of food production and distribution.

SAVING SNAP WILL NOT SOLVE HUNGER

ENDING CORPORATE FARMING WILL

Hunger is rising in the U.S. Federal workers are out of work, UPS is laying off 48,000 people, Amazon 14,000, and since January 1, 2025, over 4,000 companies have announced mass layoffs.1 The number of Americans who cannot find work is rapidly growing as are the number of families who cannot feed their children. Twenty percent (1 in every 5) of our children go to bed hungry.2 Millions of Americans are struggling to feed their families while food prices are rising and food banks are running out of food.2,3 Across the country, communities are beginning to rise, just as they rose against ICE invasions, to work together to protect the most vulnerable!

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). SNAP is a federal program that helps low-income people buy food for their families. On November 1, SNAP was scheduled to runout of money and 42 million Americans faced increased hunger.3,4 On October 31, two federal judges ruled that the Trump administration must tap into billions of dollars in emergency funds to at least partially cover food stamp benefits in November. However, the government is not required to maintain the benefits once the emergency fund is depleted.5

Fighting to save SNAP is an important mobilization, but will it finally end hunger in America? NO! SNAP benefits save some families from hunger. But they are too low, averaging $187 per participant per month, just a few dollars a meal per person per day.4

It is not the answer, because it covers up the problem, and does not solve it. Hunger in America, indeed in the world, is a part of the capitalist system and cannot be eliminated without ending the private, corporate ownership of food production and distribution.

The answer is the nationalization of corporate farms and the production of food for consumption not for profit. In America, farming is a $600 billion business in which 92% of the farms are family farms.6 But family farms account for only 35% of the gross cash farm income, the rest goes into the pockets of corporate farmers.6 We, the working class, the 99%, who must sell our ability to work in order to live need to take over the corporate farms and grow the food we need to feed ourselves.

Hunger is only one part of our lives, that is under attack by the capitalist class – the 1%, who own AI, the media, corporate farms, banks, etc. The capitalists are trying to squeeze every last penny out of us. Our lives, our democracy, our food, health care, homes and the planet itself are being sold to the highest bidder and raped for profit.

We live in a country where the ONE PERCENT BUILDS A GOLDEN BALLROOM, WHILE PEOPLE GO HUNGRY IN THE U.S. AND STARVE IN GAZA AND SUDAN.

WE CANNOT GO BACK to SNAP handouts, even an improved SNAP program. We need, we demand, the production of food for consumption not for profit

AI has changed the world, Trump and Project 2025 have changed America. We cannot go back to the “old system”, we cannot “reform the government”! and we cannot go back.

WE MUST GO FORWARD!

The 99% must have its own political party that can lead a revolution and build a world based on cooperation, where everyone has what they need and looks out for each other. If we join together to fight for the common good, we have a beautiful world to win.

We can do this. We must do this.
