U.S. INTENSIFIES ITS ATTACK ON CUBA

Indicts Former Cuban President Raúl Castro

“Those who turn everything into a business, even human lives, have no moral authority to point the finger at Cuba in any way, absolutely in any way.”1 (Cuba’s president, Miguel Díaz-Canel)

The U.S. government announced Wednesday that a federal grand jury indicted Cuba’s former President Raúl Castro for the 1996 shoot-down of two planes belonging to the Cuban exile organization Brothers to the Rescue.2 The indictment does not tell you that the Brothers to the Rescue were part of the CIA-led war on Cuba. A war that began with the 1961 Bay of Pigs invasion.

The indictment was brought by a U.S. government that has sunk at least 58 boats and murdered over 200 people in the Caribbean Sea and Eastern Pacific Ocean. Victims labelled “drug runners” without evidence and executed without trial. This is the same government that is strangling Cuba with an oil embargo, destroying the country and endangering the lives of the Cuban people, especially the young, sick and elderly.

Cuba is not Venezuela. It is a poor country without oil, minerals or really anything that the American capitalist class would demand that their government hand over to them. So, why are the capitalists and the U.S. government obsessed with Cuba? Because Cuba is everything that the U.S. is not, but could be. Cuba shows what could happen when you eliminate private property. Cuba represents an idea whose time has come – Share and Share Alike Socialism!

The Cuban People are proof that a free and democratic people are a threat to capitalism.

In 1960, Cuba took control of its country’s wealth. U.S. capitalists owned over $2 billion ($20 billion in 2026 dollars) invested in Cuba when the Cuban people took control of the resources and wealth of their country.3,4 Major U.S. companies (Texaco, Esso, Sinclair, Coca-Cola), insurance companies, banks, and large-scale sugar mills were nationalized in the name of the Cuban people.

The Cuban revolutionary leader Fidel Castro described what was going on: We are making cooperatives, agrarian reform, people’s farms, houses, schools, literacy campaigns, and sending thousands and thousands of teachers to the interior of Cuba, building hospitals, sending doctors, giving scholarships, building factories, converting fortresses into schools.”5

We all know that capitalism isn’t working. There is no work and the few jobs that exist are being replaced by AI. Our cities are bankrupt, there is no housing and our schools and medical systems are falling apart. There is fascism at home and war abroad.

The old system is dead. We cannot and will not go back to a country where the whims of billionaires determine the destruction of our lives.

The U.S. government is trying to starve and bully Cuba into submission because the capitalist class it serves does not want you to know that there is an alternative system, Share-and-Share-Alike Socialism. Share-and-Share-Alike Socialism works because human beings are kind, compassionate, giving and cooperative.

The Cuban people are united and will fight to save their country and their way of life. They are prepared to fight for the same things that the people of Minneapolis and Americans all over the country fight for: freedom from police violence and unity in the defense of their immigrant brothers and sisters and their children. The people of Gaza have not been defeated, even in the face of an ongoing genocide.

Share-and-Share-Alike Socialism is what humankind is built for and what it needs to live a full, peaceful and happy life. This is what the Cuban people are fighting for, this is what we have to fight for.

We can do this, we must do this.
