Another Dangerous Step Down the Road to Fascism

On October 12, a convoy of Homeland Security vehicles pulled up to Congressperson Ilhan Omar’s family residence and raided her house.¹ The agents claimed they were executing a court-ordered search.

But everyone knows that the agents were following Trump’s order to harass and criminalize Congressperson Omar. Trump has hounded Omar with threats and insults for 8 years. Omar stated that she will “not be silenced” by this “latest escalation” in Trump’s “intimidation” campaign.²

Under fascist rule, the national police work to eliminate political opposition. This was the function of the Gestapo during the reign of Hitler and the NAZI Party in Germany. The courts were not allowed to interfere with the Gestapo’s activities. As a Gestapo leader explained, “As long as the police carry out the will of the leadership, it is acting legally.”³. The Gestapo had the absolute power to send political opponents to concentration camps where they could be held in custody indefinitely and even murdered.

Trump’s playbook outlined in Project 2025 is based on Gestapo-style rule. It advocates a dictatorship of the billionaire class by putting the entire executive branch of the federal government under the direct, unconstrained control of the President.⁴

We are the working class, the 99% who must work to live. We can stop fascism by building a working-class political party that fights for our class and gives voice to our dream of a world where we can raise our children and grandchildren in peace, justice, and balance with the earth. Only we can do this. We must do this.
