A New Goal for a New World

May Day is part of the ongoing war between those of us who produce the world’s wealth and the private owners who steal that wealth. May Day is a class struggle between the working class, the 99%, who must sell our ability to work in order to live, and the capitalist class, the less than 1%, who own the means of production – AI, media, factories, banks, etc.

May Day was born in 1886 as part of the struggle for unions, better working conditions, and living wages. The goal was a better deal for working people. The objective was to reform the capitalist system.

BUT Capitalism is no longer working. There are no reforms left in the system. Indeed, we are going backwards, losing the few rights we fought so hard to get. Civil rights, women’s rights, and gender rights are under attack. There is no work, and the few jobs that exist are being replaced by AI. Our cities are bankrupt, there is no housing, and our schools and medical systems are falling apart. There is fascism at home and war abroad.

May Day 2026 takes place in a NEW AI-CREATED WORLD. We need a NEW GOAL. We need to change the system, not reform it!

We need “Share-and-Share-Alike Socialism” – From each according to their ability, to each according to their needs.

This is not a new idea.

It comes from who we really are. We care for each other, we come to the aid of the poor, the sick and victims of natural disasters. We work for a better life for our children. We stand up to defend our neighbors attacked by ICE, and fight to end the death, destruction, starvation, and pain inflicted by our government.

Share-and-Share-Alike Socialism is what people are built for and what we need to live a full, peaceful, and happy life.

How would this work? Under Share-and-Share-Alike Socialism, we will end the private control of the world’s wealth.  We accomplish this by transferring ownership of AI, media, factories, banks, etc., from the capitalist class to the working class. Then the class that created the world’s wealth will own that wealth.

This May Day, we march for a better world where the world’s wealth is publicly controlled and divided equally among the peoples of the world.

Share-and-Share-Alike Socialism is the future.
