I.C.E. Murder
of Lorenzo Salgado Arajuo
Early on Tuesday morning, July 7, 52-year-old Lorenzo Salgado Araujo took his coffee and a meal his wife had prepared for him, said goodbye to his dog, and left home for work. Salgado never made it to work. During a “targeted enforcement operation”, officers with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) shot and killed Salgado and arrested the three other men.1
Salgado Araujo was the 40th person shot and the 10th person murdered by ICE agents in the past year. He was killed 6 months after the assassinations of Rene Nicole Good and Alex Pretti.
The murder of Lorenzo Salgado Arajuo is part of the increased ICE reign of terror, which includes 10,000 people arrested by ICE thugs during the last 5 days of June.2
As we honor Salgado’s memory and demand justice, it is important to understand what is happening. The attack on immigrant and minority peoples in the US is not new. It is how the ruling capitalist-class divides and conquers the working-class. If we are going to eliminate ICE terror, we must know the history of anti-immigrant violence.
